The RCA, announced on April 22, builds upon a successful Joint Industry Project (JIP) funded by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA). The JIP focused on developing shore-based Remote Operations Centres (ROC) for bunker vessels, showcasing the potential of remote monitoring and control in the maritime industry. This new agreement takes the partnership a step further, aiming to enhance Singapore's capabilities in remote and autonomous maritime operations.
Unlocking Autonomous Potential
Under the RCA, DNV and SIT will collaborate to identify and develop the technical, operational, and training capabilities required for SIT's Future Ship and System Design (FSSD) Lab. This lab will play a pivotal role in supporting remote and autonomous vessel functions, ensuring that Singapore's maritime sector is at the forefront of this technological revolution.
The JIP, supported by MPA, will bring together industry and research partners to study the safe monitoring and support of vessel functions from shore. DNV and SIT will develop frameworks and applied research to strengthen the operational readiness of the Singapore maritime cluster for remote operations.
